Retired communications media professionals Sam Terry, Citizen Member for Barren County, and Matt Pedigo, BRADD’s Community Development Specialist, review tips and best practices for working with the media including sending out press releases and event notices.
Barren County Citizen Member, Barren River Area Development District Board of Directors
Sam Terry is a Barren County native, where his ancestors were among the organizers of the county and earliest residents of Glasgow. He is a graduate of Barren County High School and earned a degree in History and Political Science from Transylvania University. Professionally and personally, Sam has contributed to state and local historic preservation efforts and helped people embrace our unique history. He spent a portion of his working career as a local newspaper editor in Barren County. In that position and from other experiences, he has worked with a variety of organizations and agencies to provide effective media coverage. He is currently Director of Marketing for Green Mechanical Construction based in Glasgow. Sam is also an author, community historian, speaker, and the creator of “Sam Terry’s Kentucky,” a popular daily blog of Kentucky history. He and current Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse can be heard each weekday morning on WCLU radio as they review a century of local news about and for their community.
Community Development Specialist, Barren River Area Development District
Matt Pedigo is a native of San Rafael, California but moved to the southcentral Kentucky area at age 7. He is both an Allen County High School and WKU alumni. While still at WKU, Matt worked as a writer for The College Heights Herald, and as a reporter/photographer for the Bowling Green Daily News.
Early in 2000, Matt was hired as news editor of The Citizen-Times, Allen County’s newspaper. For 18 years, in both print and photo, he covered features, sports, spot news, hard news, crime and government matters, designed the front page and more. In 2018, Matt purchased the newspaper and served until August 1, 2021, as it’s first “non-Pitchford” publisher. At that time, he sold the newspaper to Horse Cave-based Jobe Publishing, Inc., which still owns it today. While Matt still contributes occasional features or sports photography to the paper, he retired from the profession on January 6, 2022. Matt joined the BRADD staff as a Community Development Specialist in May 2022. I still lives on his family farm in northern Allen County with his wife of 22 years, Kathy, and daughter Madison, 15. Matt also has an older daughter, Shawnda Owen, who is now 29 and lives with her husband Bryce in Bowling Green.
