Reviewing Previous Planning Efforts and Goals

As part of Barren River Area Development Districts 5-year update to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) and Multi-Hazard Multi-Jurisdiction Mitigation Plan (HMP), county-level Steering Committees met for an hour each month from January 2021 to April 2022 to create county-level strategic plans. This is a summary of the agenda for Meeting #6.

During their sixth month together in the planning process, each Steering Committee reviewed any and all previous planning efforts for the county and each city within the county. As part of this planning process, steering committees were asked to review all previous goals and objectives to determine if the previous goals/objectives had been completed, were still needed, need changes, or needed to be replaced. As each county and each city had vastly differing previous planning efforts, this meeting varied greatly from committee to committee. Many cities had no previous plans to incorporate into the effort. Types of previous plans consulted included city/county comprehensive plans, solid waste management plans, city strategic plans, and regional strategic plans (e.g. workforce development plans).

During this meeting, BRADD Staff also worked with steering committee members to create a listing of all goals/objectives from previous efforts that needed to be incorporated into the current process. This listing would later be paired with their County Profile Sheets to create the final goal/objective listing. As Steering Committees worked their way through the immense amount of data presented, this profile sheet assisted members with identifying trends early and became key tools when looking at crafting new goal/objective statements later in the process. Each Steering Committee also made use of a custom Google Classroom set up for committee members to share information and review any meeting materials for meetings they could not attend.

BRADD staff then compiled the information gathered during this meeting and used it (paired with previous meeting information) to build the foundation for each County Strategic Plan in each of the succeeding monthly meetings.
